“Encanto” debuted on Disney+ the week after Christmas and just days after, eight songs from the movie soundtrack came trending on the trendsetter platform, Tiktok.
“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” and “Surface Pressure” were all musically-catchy songs with fun dance crazes, as for “The Family Madrigal”, it was used on videos of kids opening toys and collectibles. Other hit songs were used for cosplays.
According to Bloomberg, William Gruger, the lead of music editorial at Tiktok in the U.S, who is one of the first to spot a rising trend, didn’t pay much attention to the said movie.
“Encanto” is the first Disney movie to grab a No. 1 album and No. 1 single, Jason Lipshutz, music senior director at Billboard said.
The album has topped the Billboard album charts six weeks straight. It has been claimed that the “Encanto” soundtrack is more popular than Dua Lipa, Adele, and Doja Cat this year.
The popularity no doubt was gained through the rising use of songs and clips from series and films featured on Tiktok.
The mobile app has since had the power to make music popular all the way to the charts, and now it has gotten even bigger, as it now features on series and films. As what Bloomberg said, “Chances are, it’s also popping up on Tiktok.”
Perhaps, if anyone wants to take a shot at the fame game, Tiktok might just be your one way ticket.
