In an Instagram post on March 5, his wife, Peta Murgatroyd says she’s “forever grateful” for her husband’s safe return.
Chmerkovskiy arrived in the U.S on Wednesday last week after a couple of days escape from Ukraine, which he was greeted by Murgatroyd.
The post shows of her celebrating his return to Los Angeles. The first photo captured the couple embracing each other at the airport following his arrival, while the second photo showed Chmerkovskiy cuddling with their five-year-old son, Shai Aleksander.
Murgatroyd expressed on the post that she never thought her family would be directly affected by the war crisis in their lifetime, and that what she’s seen on TV was a reality in 2022.
“I have never hugged him so tight. Shaking and forever grateful. Now it’s time to heal. We cannot go back in our normal. Our lives are forever changed. We have a new normal, and that’s ok,” the caption continued.
“I just don’t want to resent peace somewhere else because of what I saw, that’s the reality. I don’t know really what to say right this second,” Chmerkovskiy told Entertainment Tonight upon his return last week.
Chmerkovskiy had been updating on Instagram the events taking place on Ukraine since the Russian invasion of the country, Thursday, February 24.
He also sent his gratitude to Poland for helping him and the other refugees.
