Elliot Page’s “The Umbrella Academy” character, Vanya Hargreeves will come out as transgender in Season 3, according to the actor on Tuesday.

The cisgender woman Vanya Hargreeves in Seasons 1 and 2, whose superpower includes unleashing force through the use of sound shall transition in the third season, which will release on June 22, and from now on will be known as Viktor Hargreeves.

Page announced the revelation through Twitter featuring a first-photo of Viktor along the caption: “Meet Viktor Hargreeves.” Netflix retweeted the post with a caption, “Welcome to the family, Viktor - we’re so happy you’re here.”

Page came out as transgender in December 2020 and Netflix confirmed that the actor would continue to star on “The Umbrella Academy” and updated all the credits to Elliot Page.

During that time, sources told Variety there were no plans to change Page’s character’s gender on the show.

Netflix released a teaser of the series’ Season 3 earlier this month, with Page’s character still referred to as Vanya at that time.
