Johnny Depp’s recent lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard welcomed a blunt accusation on Tuesday. According to Variety, Depp’s lawyers accused Heard of fabricating her accusations of violence to advance her career.
Depp is suing Heard for defamation, claiming that her 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post damaged his reputation.
Heard’s lawyer, Ben Rottenborn. Argued that his client’s abuse allegations were true and that the way they were expressed in the 2018 op-ed was protected by the First Amendment. He speculated that Depp was the one dodging the truth in order to aid his own publicity, not Heard. He furthered by calling Depp “an obsessive ex-husband hellbent on revenge,” continued, “For years, all Mr. Depp has wanted to do is humiliate Amber, to haunt her, to wreck her career.”
The lawsuit is in Virginia and is to take about six weeks. Depp’s representatives include attorneys Ben Chew and Camille Vasquez, where they must all try to influence the opinions of 11 jurors who are being asked to consider a huge amount of documentary evidence. They must also determine if Heard’s conduct meets the legal definition of defamation.
