Today marks the 52nd anniversary of the advent of the modern environmental movement, which started in 1970, that brings people all around the world in one to shift their full focus on the planet and the many issues it experiences from pollution to climate change.
It is the time to encourage discussions and influence action on environmental challenges.
The Earth Day 2022 opens up wit the theme: “Invest In Our Planet,” which follows the recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, where it states that without immediate action to lessen greenhouse gas emissions, the world is threatened of having temperatures 3.2°C above pre-industrial levels, an information obtained per National World.
True enough, everyone needs to understand how grave the environment’s situation is as the UN reported that humanity only has three more years to curb greenhouse gas emissions and avoid climate-related disasters.
Such report resulted to more than one thousand scientists in twenty-five countries protesting earlier this month.
“We need to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by mid-century to keep the global temperature below 1,5°C,” stated the earthday.org in their official website. The statement continue by urging people around the word “to join and learn about the key solutions which will counter the greenhouse gas reductions needed by 2030 to meet the Paris Agreement.”
They call upon everyone - the business climate, the political climate, and how we as collective, take action on climate. “Now is the time for the unstoppable courage to preserve and protect our health, our families, and our livelihoods,” furthered the statement.
“For Earth Day 2022, we need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). It’s going to take all of us. All in. Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet," they concluded.
Let Earth, our one and only home breathe. Each of us are called to act and make our voices even louder this time, as we pray for our leaders to listen and that there may be a launch of a sustainability revolution.
