Bruce Willis is retiring from acting due to aphasia, a condition that affects his cognitive abilities.

Willis’ daughter, Rumer, shared on her Instagram account on Wednesday, an image of the “Die Hard” actor with a caption that read: “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities.”

“As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.” the statement continued. “This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support.”

The caption further shared that the family is “moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.”

The statement concluded, “As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we plan just to do that,” along with his ex wife, Demi Moore, who also shared the particular post, daughters Rumer, Scout and Tallulah, and his current wife, Emma, and daughters Mabel and Evelyn.

Aphasia is a condition that robs you of the ability to communicate and can be caused by a stroke, head injury, a brain tumor or a disease, per Mayo Clinic.
