Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker Sean Penn went to Ukraine with plans to film a documentary on Russia’s invasion of the country. Penn came to Kyiv to record the incidents taking place in Ukraine, as stated by the office of the president.

Penn wants to let the world know what is happening around the invasion, which gained praise from the office of the president and said the country is grateful for his courage and honesty, according to a translated statement shared via Facebook. Penn was present in a press briefing following Russia’s attack along with the head of the state and vice prime minister, sitting in the front row, wearing sunglasses.

Penn "demonstrates the courage that many others, especially western politicians, lack," said the office of the president, adding that more support from people like Penn can help put the invasion to an end.

In an Instagram story, Zelensky shared a clip of himself and Penn talking. More information is yet to be disclosed as news outlets are currently reaching out to the authorities.

The director reportedly is recording the documentary under Vice Studios in association with Vice World News and Endeavor Content, according to Variety.

The actor has since started preparing for the documentary last November 2021 by visiting with the country’s military, as photos of him were released by the Ukrainian Joint Forces Operation Press.
